About Deborah Day
Deborah Day grew up in a rural part of Southern California where her enthusiasm for horses and art flourished side by side. She learned to ride on the rocky ground of the San Gabriel foothills and loved to paint whatever horse she rode. Her artistic and equine careers started at the age of five.
Deborah studied painting in the traditional style under a local artist. Soon after she began to receive commissions that helped her to expand and develop her skills. She furthered her education at California State Polytechnic University, at Pomona, where she graduated with honors with a major in Art and a minor in Animal Science.
Deborah has been a horse owner since the age of seven and her twin passions for horses and art continue to develop hand in hand. While she has successfully shown her horses in a number of disciplines, she most enjoy reining and finds riding to be the perfect complement to studio time.
Her enthusiasm for starting a new colt is equal to that of starting a new painting. Deborah has enjoyed a kinship with these noble animals and seeks to express this love through her art.
Deborah received the People's Choice Award at the 2000 Cow Palace Western Art Show for her painting "Bridle Horse". The inspiration for this painting was her favorite gelding Rocky. She is also featured in the book "Of Women and Horses" by GaWaNi Pony Boy.
